What we do

Since it was proposed in 1996, the Alliance has fostered and, in most cases, participated in dozens of exchanges. The complete list can be viewed from the Exchange Events button.

Exchanges have been in both directions and have involved young and old, sports, music and art. Notable events include the visit by 30 members of The University Symphony Orchestra to Loches and of the St Salvator's Chapel Choir two years previously. Two years running, St Andrews received small parties of teenage golfers from Loches whose golf improved significantly after an intensive week of coaching and playing.

There has been a long-running series of exchanges between St Leonards and the Lycée Alfred de Vigny in Loches. In the past few years there have been successful exchanges between Madras College and the Collège Georges Besse.

The success of the Alliance was recognized during its 10th Anniversary year when a "Cultural Partnership" Agreement was agreed between the two towns.

The Mayor of Loches (M Jean-Jacques Descamps), the Président of the Nouvelle Alliance (M me Catherine Prot) and the founding Président of the Nouvelle Alliance (M Pascal du Brisay) signed on behalf of Loches whilst Scottish signatories were the Provost of Fife (Mr John Simpson], the Chair of the St Andrews Community Council (Mr Donald Macgregor), the Chair of the Alliance (Mrs Virginia Fowler) and the founding President (Mrs Mary Freeborn).
